Some things you should know
Saving your natural tooth should always be your first choice when dental care is needed. If your dentist has recommended extracting your tooth, an endodontist may be able to save it. Endodontic treatment removes the injured pulp (soft inner tissue) of your tooth and fills and seals the space.
Your tooth is then restored and can function just like any other tooth for the rest of your life, ensuring comfortable chewing and a natural appearance. Endodontists can often save the most severely injured teeth. Do everything possible to save your teeth before considering extraction. Nothing is as good as your natural tooth!
Why Choose an Endodontist?
Endodontists are dentists with at least two additional years of advanced specialty education in diagnosis and root canal treatment. Because our practice is limited to endodontics, we treat these types of problems every day. Endodontists have advanced training and experience in treating difficult cases, such as teeth with narrow or blocked canals, or unusual anatomy.
At Centre Endodontique de Montreal we use advanced technology, such as operating microscopes, ultrasonic instruments, digital intra-oral imaging, and 3D imaging to perform these special services.
Oral and facial pain can often be difficult to localize. Pain related to an injured pulp (soft tissue inside a tooth) is often felt in another tooth and in the head, neck, or ear. An endodontist is a specialist in diagnosing this type of pain and in distinguishing it from pain that may not be of dental origin. When necessary, a three dimensional small-field CT scan of a tooth can be taken in our office to aid in the diagnosis and treatment planning of more complex cases. (see section CBCT)
